MediaTek Helio G90, Helio G90T SoCs Launched for Gaming Smartphones |TechNews

MediaTek launched the Helio G90 series system-on-chips (SoCs) on Tuesday, designed specifically for Gaming Phones. Qualcomm's new series with Snapdragon 730 and Snapdragon 730G includes Helio G90 and Helio G90T, both of which are paired with MediaTek's HyperEngine game technology that is eager to provide an enhanced gaming experience on smartphones. The Helio G90 series also has an octa-core CPU, paired with the ARM Mali-G76 3EEMC4 GPU. The Taiwanese company claims that this combination performs up to 1 TMACs (TeraMAC). The chipsets were created with the massive participation of the MediaTek India team, though both are available for smartphones Worldwide.

At an event in New Delhi, MediaTek showed that the Helio G90 boosted the recently launched game-focused Snapdragon 730 and Snapdragon 730 G SoCs by 3% and 7%, respectively. At GeekBench 4.1, the company showed that the new Helio chipset delivered 10% Better results than the Snapdragon 730G and an increase of 9% over the Snapdragon 730

The MediaTek Helio G90 and Helio G90 both have an octa-core CPU with ARM Cortex-A76 and Cortex-A55 cores with a maximum speed of 2.05GHz. Mali-G76 3EEMC4 GPUs stand up to 800 MHz in SoCs.

MediaTek also offers LPDDR4x support and a full-HD +, 21: 9 display. Further, the Helio G90 and Helio G90 both have LTE CAT-12 network support. There is also an intelligent dual-mic wake-up feature that aims to boost performance for voice assistants such as Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.

However, as part of the main difference between the two, The Helio G90 quad-camera setup supports up to 90Hz display, 10GB of RAM, and 64-megapixel primary sensor. On the other hand, The Helio G90 is designed to work on a 60Hz display and operate a 48-megapixel sensor in triple camera setup alongside 8GB of RAM.

To enhance the mobile gaming experience, Helio G90 and Helio G90 SoCs use HyperEngine game technology, which includes a networking engine to optimize the connection between a smartphone and its cellular network. MediaTek claims that the engine can respond 50% faster than a competitive solution in a crowded environment.

The company's internal technology also comes with dual Wi-Fi connection support that allows a single smartphone antenna to simultaneously connect to two Wi-Fi bands or two routers.

To improve game action-to-display speed, HyperEngine technology uses a Rapid response engine that is claimed to bring proper time control. HyperEngine technology also brings features like call and data concurrency, resource management engine and an image quality engine. Furthermore, supported hardware has support for the HDR10 standard to provide 10-bit color depth.

In addition to providing game-centric features, MediaTek Helio G90 and Helio G90T support a night shot mode and work with a multi-camera framework that supports the choice of multiple lenses.

The full list of OEMs that are bringing new Helio chipsets to their future smartphones has not yet been released. Nevertheless, Manu Kumar Jain, managing director of Xiaomi India, mentioned at the launch event that the company will soon launch an Helio G90 powered the smartphone.
